For those of you who attended our Tribute to Lorraine Hunt Lieberson on Monday 3 June, we can tell you that the encore performed was the Musette from Handel’s Concerto Grosso Op6 No6. You may have also noticed that Stéphanie d’Oustrac was unfortunately indisposed and unable to join us on this occasion. We were, however, very pleased to welcome Karine Deshayes, who stood in at the last minute and was met with a wonderful response. Here’s a bit more about her.
After studying at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique (Paris), Karine became a Company member of the Opéra National de Lyon where she has sung Cherubino (Le Nozze di Figaro), Stefano (Roméo et Juliette), Rosina (Il Barbieri di Siviglia). The Opéra National de Paris, then invited her to sing in Rusalka, Juliette ou la Clé des Songes, Faust, Veck Makropoulos, and the Salzbourg Festival for the Seconde Dame (Zauberflöte) under Riccardo Muti’s baton.
Other roles include La Cenerentola at the Opéra National de Bordeaux, Zerlina (Don Giovanni) at the Théatre du Capitole, Toulouse and Opéra de Monte Carlo, Béatrice (Béatrice et Bénédict) at the Opéra National du Rhin. She made her debuts at the Metropolitan Opera in the role of Siebel (Faust).
More recently she has sung the title role of La Navarraise Salle Pleyel, the role of Carmen and Sesto (Giulio Cesare) at the Opéra National de Paris, Isolier (Le Comte Ory) at the Metropolitan Opera of New-York and Rosina (Il Barbiere di Siviglia) at the Opéra d’Avignon.
Future plans include the roles of Charlotte (Werther), Romeo (I Capuleti e i Montecchi) and Poppea (Incoronazione di Poppea) at the Opéra National de Paris, Isoletta (La Straniera) at the Opéra de Marseille, Fenena (Nabucco) at the Chorégies d’Orange, Cendrillon at the Liceu, La Cenerentola at the San Francisco Opera, Nicklausse (Les Contes d’Hoffmann) at the Metropolitan Opera of New York, Carmen in Avignon, as well as numerous concerts.
