Explore six stages of love with one of Britain’s favourite singers, mezzo-soprano and international opera star, Sarah Connolly.
Based on a series of poems, Berlioz’s dramatic song cycles Les Nuits d’été takes you on a journey from joyful youth to everlasting life.
This is matched in this concert with works by Mendelssohn. The tale of fair Melusine is an exploration of mythical love, before the concert reaches a climax with the vivid, upbeat Symphony no.4.
Pre-concert talk, 5.45pm-6.15pm, Royal Festival Hall (Level 5 Function Room) Explore the ideas behind the music of Berlioz and Mendelssohn with Robert Samuels from the Open University.
Post-concert discussion Royal Festival Hall (Clore Ballroom) Join concert director Kati Debretzeni for a look at Mendelssohn’s Italian symphony.
