Great to have Louise back for Gilbert and Sullivan's Trial by Jury! twitter.com/louisealdersop…
Who was she?
Cleopatra was the last Pharaoh of Egypt. Unlike the rest of the feisty females we’ve featured in this series, she was a real historical figure but has reached an almost legendary status due to her accomplishments and the other famous rulers with whom she associated.
What was she famous for?
Cleopatra was involved in the power struggle that gripped ancient Rome and which she used for her own advantage.
She had relationships with Caesar and Mark Antony, the latter of which was immortalised by Shakespeare in his play Antony and Cleopatra.
She has inspired artists, writers, musicians, playwrights, choreographers, film makers, comics, celebrity photo-shoots, and a short-lived girl band…
Was she a queen, heroine or ladykiller?
Cleopatra was a Pharaoh and a ladykiller!
Who will be singing Cleopatra and when?
We’ll be performing music from Handel’s Giulio Cesare (which features Cleopatra as a main character) on Monday 3 June 2013 at the Royal Festival Hall. Full details and booking here.
