So, for those of you who were at the 7pm concert at the Royal Festival Hall last night, here’s what the encores were:

Pierre-Laurent Aimard played Les sons et les parfums tournent dans l’air du soir from Debussy’s first book of Préludes.

The Orchestra and Sir Simon played Satie’s Gymnopédie No.1, orchestrated by Debussy (who renumbered it No.3, confusingly)

  • The Debussy Prelude was sublime, especially played on an Erard grand piano! Not that the rest of the concert was of a lower standard, especially the concerto, which sounded very different not played on a Steinway – Aimard’s palette of colours was extraordinary.
