OAE

The Ann and Peter Law OAE Experience enables exceptionally gifted period instrument players to work alongside the OAE and receive ongoing mentoring from OAE musicians.

The year-long scheme is aimed at students in the final stages of study, bridging the gap between music college and a professional career. Our 2014 participants on the scheme have the opportunity to work with world-class conductors including Robin Ticciati, Ottavio Dantone, Francois-Xavier Roth, Semyon Bychkov, Sir Simon Rattle and Sir Mark Elder.

The year kicked off at the OAE Academy in January, a three day course during which the participants focused on historically informed practice and performance, led by one of the OAE’s Leaders, Margaret Faultless. This year saw workshops led by OAE Players Lisa Beznosiuk, Chi-chi Nwanoku MBE, Steven Devine and guest player John Hutchinson.

The Academy isn’t just about playing great music, the participants also receive training in editing scores for historical performance (workshop led by Roy Mowatt), as well as Education tutoring by Education Director Cherry Forbes, for the participants involvement in Education projects throughout the year.  A bit of light relief involved the participants stretching themselves (literally) with Martin Lawrence in a Get Physical session, involving yoga and a bit of brief meditation to Happy Birthday (yes, really). All of the sessions are designed to help guide the participants throughout their time at the OAE.

We’d like to welcome the participants who have travelled far and wide to be a part of the Ann and Peter Law OAE Experience 2014.

And as ever, the highlight of the Academy was the cakes!
