It is our great pleasure to announce that actor Samuel West will be narrating our French Fancies concerts, in Reading and London, on 19 & 20 February. Samuel will be accompanying the Labèque sisters on stage and reading Ogden Nash’s libretto to Saint-Saens’ Carnival of the Animals. Here’s a bit about his previous work…
Having a great love for music and the arts Samuel has directed ten plays and two operas, including the first opera ever to visit Palestine. On stage he’s played the title roles in Richard II and Hamlet for the Royal Shakespeare Company, Jeffrey Skilling in Lucy Prebble’s ENRON, appeared in Betrayal and The Family Reunion at the Donmar Warehouse and last year he played Astrov in Uncle Vanya on the West End. He was Ted Heath in the BBC drama Margaret Thatcher: The Long Walk to Finchley, appeared as Frank Edwards in the acclaimed Mr Selfridge and is currently filming Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell for the BBC.
Samuel’s film roles include Van Helsing, Franco Zeffirelli’s Jane Eyre, Notting Hill, Persuasion and Hyde Park on Hudson. His performance of Leonard Bast in the 1993 film Howards End earned him BAFTA nomination.
