And a really inspirational talk it was too! twitter.com/HelenRichenda/…
In a few weeks time we will be reunited with Principal Artist Sir Simon Rattle for one of the highlights of our current season – Haydn’s Creation at the Royal Festival Hall, a concert that promises to be another landmark moment in Sir Simon’s relationship with the OAE, which dates back to 1987, the year after the Orchestra was founded.
Almost 30 years after that first concert the OAE has gone global. Our work reaches over 5 million people acoss the world, 95,000 attend our concerts and each year we inspire over 6,000 children with our education programme.
As our performance of Haydn’s Creation draws close, we and Sir Simon invite you to support the Orchestra with our Creation Appeal as we look forward to the next phase of our journey together.
Here’s a message from Sir Simon:
“My association with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment goes back to 1987 when we performed Mozart’s Idomeneo together at the Southbank Centre. Driven forward by the generous support of philanthropists, that occasion was a watershed moment in the Orchestra’s history and from it flowed the important Residency at the Southbank and its position as Associate Orchestra at Glyndebourne. It also cemented our partnership together.
Almost 30 years on, I never fail to be struck by the Orchestra’s passion and ambition as it consistently continues to push for change and strive for excellence on the concert platform and beyond. I look forward to our collaborations in the coming seasons.
As a Principal Artist of the Orchestra, I ask you to support the OAE as we come together again to perform Haydn’s Creation in the Royal Festival Hall on 6 May 2014. Enclosed are some packages offering exciting opportunities to get involved with this wonderful organisation.
I hope that you will do what you can to help, and join me in showing your support for the next phase of our journey together.”
