Sadly, it’s time for the third and concluding part of our Rattle Tour 2012 video diary.

Here, we feature interviews with Katherine Spencer (Bass Clarinet), Anthony Robson (Oboe) and Claire Holden (Violin) and rehearsal footage of Pierre-Laurent Aimard, Sir Simon Rattle and of course, our lovely Orchestra.

Bach: the missing soloists

This Wednesday, 25 April, saw us at the Queen Elizabeth Hall performing an all-Bach concert, with soloist Ian Bostridge and director Steven Devine. What anyone who was at the concert will have realised though was that Ian was not the only soloist, with the Brandenburg Concerto No.4 and also the Cantata Ich habe genug also having substatial solo parts (aside from the voice, in the case of the Cantata).

Lastly, with our 25th Anniversary approaching in June, Helen Wallace (who wrote our 21st anniversary book, Spirit of the Orchestra) talks about the origins and history of the OAE. Happy listening!

Handel: A real diva

According to our Principal Oboist Tony Robson. In our latest little video we asked players what they thought of Handel and his music. We’re taking our ‘Celebration of Handel’ on tour shortly, starting off in Dartington (29 May), then London (4 June) and Halle, Germany (9 June) before concluding with an all-Handel Night Shift on 24 June.

Our new podcast is just out and can be listened to below – and will be available on itunes shortly. It features singer Christopher Purves and conductor Sir Mark Elder talking about Donizetti’s Maria di Rohan and OAE Principal Oboe Anthony Robson talking abour Elgar’s Dream of Gerontius.

Please note that the clip from Maria Di Rohan (supplied with thanks to Opera Rara) is not from the forthcoming recording but is with Nelly Miricioiu and the Philharmonia Orchestra.

We perform Maria di Rohan at the Royal Festival Hall on 7 November (tickets), and The Dream of Gerontius at the Royal Festival Hall on 24 November (tickets), withe further performances in Birmingham Town Hall on 28 and 29 November (tickets).
