A couple of celebrations…

Tue 23 Apr 2013

Today is not only St. George’s Day but also World Book Day, so we thought we’d mix some British music with some literature-related music and the result is a new Spotify playlist, including Purcell’s works on Shakespeare, Monteverdi’s on Petrarca, Strauss on Cervantes…

Add some Dowland, Britten, Tallis, Sullivan and of course the most well-known versions of Romeo and Juliet (Berlioz, Prokofiev and Bernstein’s West Side Story) and you’ll have a wonderful soundtrack for your day. Enjoy it!

It’s not long until our concert with Trevor Pinnock, Kati Debretzeni and Jonathan Manson, playing some fabulous music by Haydn and his two contempories, Boccherini and Salomon.

We thought we’d be extra generous and give you the chance to hear some of the music we’ll be playing on Friday in our Spotify playlist.

Jurowski tour: Spotify playlist

Wed 17 Aug 2011

Vladimir Jurowski on the cover of the Beethoven DVD

Later this week we’re reunited with our Principal Artist, Vladimir Jurowski to start rehearsals for a tour with him. The first two dates of the tour take in San Sebastian and Edinburgh (for the festival), with a programme of Weber, Mendelssohn (the violin concerto with Alina Ibragimova) and Liszt’s epic Faust Symphony. While you may know the Weber and Mendelssohn, you may well not know the Liszt, so we’ve put together a Spotify playlist of the entire programme for your listening pleasure. More on the tour in due course…

Baroque. Contrasted: Playlists

Thu 31 Mar 2011

Next week we go Baroque crazy with our festival at Kings Place,  an action-packed five days of concerts, talks, workshops and more. We’re playing some music from the big names of the Baroque, but the Thursday and Friday concerts also contain a few rarities. Any fans of the composer Finger here? Or William Williams?

Well, over the next few days we’re going to be posting up some potted facts about these lesser-known composers, and we’ve also put some playlists together for you on Spotify, so you can preview some of the music. We’ll also try and find some Youtube links for those of you who aren’t using Spotify yet.

Here are the Spotify links – enjoy!

Hi everyone, my name’s David and I’m the new Communications Intern in the OAE office. I’ve been here a couple of weeks now but this is my first blog post on here!

To get you all in the mood for tomorrow, I’ve created a playlist on Spotify – if you’d like to have a listen click here to go to Spotify and have an explore.

See you at the concert tomorrow,
