H Factor

In concerts generally we play the music and you listen and enjoy. There is of course one well known exception – and that is the Hallelujah chorus of Handel’s Messiah. For reasons we’ll explain in a future post generally what happens ( in the UK at least) is that the entire audience stands up and joins in – much to the bemusement of any non-Brits in the audience.

We’re performing Messiah at the Royal Festival Hall on 9 December, and look forward to hearing your most dulcet tones then, but as a little warm up we are launching a very special opportunity – The H(allelujah) Factor.

We’re looking for your very best renditions of the Hallelujah Chorus, to be made into a very special video montage ahead of our 9 December performance. This is how it’s going to work:

1) You take a listen to our backing track, supplied courtesy of OAE Co-Principal Keyboard Steven Devine
2) If you need it, take a look at the libretto (i.e. the words) below
3) If extra inspiration is needed take a look at the YouTube video also posted below
4) You film yourself via webcam, camera phone, whatever, singing part or all of the Hallelujah chorus, using our backing track. You can do this on your own, with your whole family, with your friends, dog, whatever. We want to make the end result as interesting and visually stimulating as possible, so the more entertaining your video, the more chance it has of being featured. Bonus points for including tinsel, Christmas jumpers and other Xmas decorations in your video.
5) You send your video to us. You can upload it to YouTube and send us a link, send us a video file  via Wetransfer, Hightail or similar (sending to oaemarketing at gmail.com) Send us an email (max 25mb) with the video or share with us using Google Drive.
6) We will then make as many of the videos as possible into a spliced together version of the Hallelujah Chorus. We will also pick one winning video based on musical quality and inventiveness to be a WINNER. That winner will receive 4 top-price tickets to our Messiah on 9 Dec.

There are three important things to add.

First – we MUST receive videos by 9am on Thursday 4 December
Secondly – we realise it is entirely possible that this whole idea will fall flat on its face and no one will submit anything. That would be terribly embarrassing so please don’t put us in that awkward situation.
Thirdly – in true TV ‘talent’ show style, extra points will be awarded for sob stories, telling us how much you want this, how you’ve made the track your own and what impossible % over 100 you have put into it.

Stuff you need:
1 – Backing Track

2- Libretto

Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

For the Lord God Omnipotent reigneth.
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

For the Lord God omnipotent reigneth.
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

The kingdom of this world
Is become the kingdom of our Lord,
And of His Christ, and of His Christ;
And He shall reign for ever and ever,
For ever and ever, forever and ever,

King of kings, and Lord of lords,
King of kings, and Lord of lords,
And Lord of lords,
And He shall reign,
And He shall reign forever and ever,
King of kings, forever and ever,
And Lord of lords,
Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

And He shall reign forever and ever,
King of kings! and Lord of lords!
And He shall reign forever and ever,
King of kings! and Lord of lords!
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

3) Inspiration
