Bach, the Universe and Everything is our very own Sunday service for inquiring and curious minds; a place to bond with music lovers and revel in the wonders of science.

The science

You’ve probably heard of quantum physics, and might know it’s about weird things such as tiny particles being in two places at the same time. But quantum biology? Professor Alexandra Olaya-Castro is a leading figure in this emerging field, which explores the role quantum mechanics plays in biological processes, from photosynthesis to birds’ remarkable navigation systems.

The music

This cantata is something of a musical sandwich, with flowing, optimistic first and last movements surrounding sections with darker moods of judgement and fear. It’s one for horn fans, with a prominent natural horn complementing the soprano singer.
