The Night Shift: Shadwell

Shadwell, The George Tavern £5 - £10 Book Tickets

In this Night Shift it’s a clarinet full house!

We’ve got baroque, classical and romantic ones, basset horns, and a full pack of chalumeau. You can’t start exploring the history of clarinets without some Mozart – the set list includes a Divertimento and the Garden Arias from The Marriage of Figaro – but, as you know, we love to uncover the unusual here at OAE: so here is a rare chance to hear some Graupner (who absolutely loved the chalumeau) with his Suite for Three Chalumeau and we finish the evening with Henri Tomasi’s distinctively flavoured Concert Champetre. We also celebrate the versatility of this family of instruments with folk music from England, South America and Hungary.

Performers for the evening are Katherine Spencer and Sarah Thurlow on clarinets, basset horns and chalumeau, and Chris Rawley on bassoon and bass chalumeau, with Jo Lawrence (violin) and John Henry Baker (double bass).

Head down to the George Tavern on Commercial Road in Shadwell, grab a drink and enjoy a night of music that is live and kicking. Doors open at 7.30pm with live music from 7.45pm and then main event beginning at 8.30pm.
