Bach, the Universe and Everything at Cheltenham Music Festival

A one-off special of our series celebrating Bach's cantatas for the Cheltenham Music Festival with guest speaker Meganne Christian.
Cheltenham, Pitville Pump Room £18 - £32 Info & Tickets

In Bach, the Universe and Everything – normally to be found monthly at Kings Place in London between October and March – we explore humanity’s place in the cosmos guided by the intergalactic genius of JS Bach. In today’s event we’ll hear his cantata for the 6th Sunday after Trinity, Es ist das Heil uns kommen her (It is our salvation come here to us), BWV 9. Opening with a gloriously concerto-like fantasia it features arias for soprano, alto and tenor whilst the bass delivers the ‘voice of God’ in the recitatives. Other music being performed includes the Regina caeli a 4 by Palestrina and movements from Telemann’s Concerto for viola d’amore, flute, oboe d’amore and strings.

We’re joined by guest speaker Meganne Christian to tell us of her remarkable journey to becoming a member of the European Space Agency Astronaut Group.
