Bach, the Universe and Everything: The Mathematics of Decisions

In this concert, Professor Samuel Cohen from the University of Oxford encourages us to reflect on our personal ambitions.
London, Kings Place - £17.50

In Bach, the Universe & Everything we bring together science and Bach cantatas to create a thought-provoking and uplifting Sunday morning event.

THE MUSIC

JS Bach  Liebster Jesu, mein Verlangen (Dearest Jesus, my Desire, BWV 32)

This Cantata is the form of a dialogue between the soul and Jesus. Inspired by the finding of Jesus in the temple, it reminds us of what we have lost and what we can find. It is some of the most wonderful music Bach composed.

and
JS Bach  Prelude, Freu dich sehr, o meine Seele (BWV Anh. II 52)
Byrd  Christe qui lux es et dies
Albinoni  Adagio from Oboe Concerto Op 9 No. 2

THE SCIENCE

In this talk, Professor Samuel Cohen from the University of Oxford encourages us to reflect on our personal ambitions and ask “How can I be sure that tomorrow’s decisions will satisfy today’s objectives?”

This event is repeated in Oxford on Sunday 20 March at 5.30pm.
