Commercial Video Projects

The OAE is recognised for its independent film production, from YouTube short form to critically acclaimed concert features which it presents on its own channel, OAE Player, and through leading third party distributor Marquee TV. Dreamchasing Young Producers are trained in key production skills by OAE mentors and are then engaged on professional projects in a work experience programme that runs through the artistic season. Students from Acland Burghley school have been taught a wide range of production skills including:

  • rig & derig;
  • run communications;
  • setup and manage camera systems;
  • operate cameras for broadcast and production recording;
  • vision mix.

They have then have applied those skills on commercial production for the Orchestra.

The examples below from the 2021-2022 season demonstrate the contribution of the OAE Young Producers team in Southbank Centre film production and two original short films for YouTube – pop videos that were specially created to showcase the OAE Rising Stars singers, Hugo Hymas and Nicholas Pritchard. These films, sponsored by Gramophone, were produced for key OAE digital partner, Marquee TV.

Handel meets Finneas

Handel meets Finneas

Inspired by the video created for the Finneas hit, ‘What they’ll say about us’, the OAE supported by the Dreamchasing Young Producers created a new vision for the Handel aria, ‘Where’er you walk’ from Semele.

Using the versatile space of the Acland Burghley school hall as a film lot, the staff / student production team installed their most elaborate rig yet including:

  • installation of circular Ronford Baker film track;
  • bespoke fresnel lighting scheme with dmx control;
  • 360 degree film grade blackout perimeter;
  • bespoke dolly construction to accommodate subject, production effects, camera, lights;
  • rain machine;
  • cold spark generation;
  • wind machine;
  • digital duplex team comms.

In addition Dreamchasing Young Producers handled risk assessment, health and safety, talent management and behind the scenes documentation.

Handel meets the Verve

Handel meets the Verve

Inspired by the video created for the Verve hit, ‘Bittersweet Symphony’, the OAE supported by the Dreamchasing Young Producers created a new vision for the Handel aria, ‘Thou shalt break them’ from The Messiah.

We took this into the street near the school (Fortess Road) and created the film narrative so that it connects directly with our new community. This project required:

  • Camden film licensing;
  • multiple extra management;
  • community liaison;
  • rigorous continuity management;
  • on screen cameos for Young Producers.

As before, the Dreamchasing Young Producers handled risk assessment, health and safety, talent management and behind the scenes documentation.

"Of course there is the music, the main business of the orchestra - the rehearsals, concerts, workshops and all the great work of bringing on musicians - but what we have to offer is so much more - the OAE Staff are a highly skilled and experienced production team - they have a crucial role as examples and mentors."
Crispin Woodhead, Chief Executive
