OAE TOTS at Southbank Centre
In 2017-18 we presented three new TOTS concerts at Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall and Purcell Room entitled Stories of Old. Beginning with a TOTS Guide to the Orchestra, our youngest audience members explored the history of the orchestra and its instruments. This was then followed by stories inspired by The Fairy Queen and King Arthur by Henry Purcell, reimagined by Hazel Gould.
In 2018-19, we returned to Southbank Centre with The Worlds Around Us, three more TOTS concerts built around Mozart’s The Magic Flute, Handel’s Music for the Royal Fireworks and Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos.
We also performed regular TOTS workshops with two or three of our musicians, as part of the London Philharmonic Orchestra’s FUNharmonics family series.
"Loved it! Jolly & upbeat for little children, easy to join in with songs and actions and wonderful to listen and watch old instruments played so beautifully. Thank you!"
OAE TOTS at Brighton Early Music Festival
In October we returned to the Brighton Early Music Festival with our Apple Tree TOTS concert at the Brighton Friends Meeting House.
"I took my two grandchildren along to this concert yesterday. They were spellbound. It was a most relaxed event, so well led by all of you, with lots of interest in singing, copying the actions and just being involved!"
The Apple Tree at Saffron Hall
In June we performed our Apple Tree TOTS concert at Saffron Hall to wonderful audiences. We are delighted that our TOTS concerts are now ‘on tour’ with more of the venues where the OAE plays which have asked for these events.
