We return to the Fairy Queen's Magical Forest... now mysteriously relocated to beautiful County Durham.

Composer James Redwood and writer Hazel Gould transform Henry Purcell’s Shakespeare-inspired 1692 opera into a magical new adventure for the whole family.

The musicians of the OAE are joined on stage by young singers and instrumentalists from County Durham who have been working with us to create a new staging of our fantastical community opera.

Our reimagining of Purcell’s The Fairy Queen is about wishes that come true, and what happens when they do, as we learn about friendship, love and telling the truth…

Welcome to The Magical Forest...

As you make your way through it you’ll soon discover that the journey to The Fairy Queen’s Party is not a straightforward path. Strange things happen all around as sprites and pixies enchant and trick, but the only real obstacle is ourselves.

Since the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment relocated its base to Acland Burghley School, a comprehensive in north London, its education work has taken off in all sorts of unexpected directions — of which this show is probably both the wackiest and the most ambitious example.
