Sit in for a rehearsal of Bach’s first Passion, St John Passion hours before our first ever performance with conductor Johanna Soller.
Written during his role as the Thomaskantor to Liepzig, his very first Passion provided all the drama and soulfulness required of a Passion. Performed a series of times, Bach revised the Passion, for example the year after its premiere in 1724 in which he replaced the opening chorus ‘Herr unser Herrscher’ with ‘O Mensch bewein dein Sünde groß’.
