A highlight on our new Ann and Peter Law OAE Experience Scheme 2026 cohort: Sagnick Mukherjee

Our new cohort of the OAE Academy began their first course on the 10th and 11th of January, including Sagnick, a viola player who joined the scheme in 2026.

Sagnick was first introduced to music during his childhood in Kolkata, where he was introduced to Western Classical violin and viola, along with Classic Hindustani singing. Later, a budding interest in Western Classical music drew Sagnick to Glasgow, where he went on to study electronic engineering and music at the University of Glasgow for his undergraduate, following which he studied at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

Working across India and the UK, Sagnick’s interests span from historically-informed performance to creating new music and his commitment to audience engagement as a concert presenter. Notable orchestral appearances of Sagnick’s include BBC Scottish Symphony OrchestraCity of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, and Symphony Orchestra of India, as well as period ensembles such as the English Baroque SoloistsDunedin Consort and now the OAE Academy.

During the first course, Sagnick’s talent was unmissable, and therefore he has been chosen as the Stanley Picker Trust Scholar. “Sagnick is a fabulous viola player who studied in Scotland and currently lives in Glasgow and joined the scheme in Jan 2026.” Cherry Forbes, OAE Education Director.

We look forward to continuing to work closely with Sagnick across the course and seeing him thrive and become a role model for the young people and children who participate in our education projects.

Sagnick will be detailing his OAE Experience journey in blogs which you will be able to find online here.
