Join us as we rehearse Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto framed by the works of his friend Michael Haydn and the ‘Spanish Mozart’, Juan Arriaga.
Delve into the Orchestra’s creative process as we take on Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto, with Principal Clarinet Katherine Spencer (Waffy) as soloist with her newly-made baroque clarinet, styled on Stadler’s clarinet, the dedicatee of the Clarinet Concerto.
One of the most significant concertos in the history of the clarinet, this concerto was the very first dedicated to the clarinet by one of the major composers. The concerto itself is built upon the close friendship of Mozart and Austrian clarinettist Anton Stadler. Explore this revolutionary piece of music with the Orchestra in real time, also accompanied by works from Mozart’s friend Haydn and his Spanish self Arriaga, the ‘Spanish Mozart’.
The OAE’s 40th anniversary seasons in 2025/26 and 2026/27 are made possible with the support of The Forty Circle.
