Off the back of our successful Das Jahr project, join the OAE and Sheila Hayman (descendant of Fanny Mendelssohn and director of the documentary ‘Fanny: The Other Mendelssohn’) for a riveting and comedic take on Fanny’s career. Enjoy a drink at the pub round the corner beforehand and a post-show Q&A with the creative team.
Her younger brother Felix became a musical sensation, so much so that Queen Victoria requested a personal concert and sung one of her favourite compositions of his ‘Italien’, only this composition wasn’t his but in fact was Fanny’s published under her brothers name.
In Finlay’s vision, Fanny intercepts a letter from England to Felix, requesting a premiere of new orchestral work for the Queen, but Fanny hides this letter and takes her rightful place at the palace.
“Calum Finlay’s fast-moving comedy about the composer and her struggles to be recognised is pitch-perfectly performed.” The Guardian
“A lot of laughs and some fabulously accomplished performances.” West End Best Friend
