The Night Shift at The Rushmere

We are bringing The Night Shift back to Wimbledon for a special festival edition at the Rushmere.

We are thrilled to present La Gamme, the final masterpiece by the extraordinary Marin Marais, at the Wimbledon International Music Festival.

Huw Daniel, one of the OAE’s leaders, says “I have been looking for an opportunity to perform La Gamme for a while—this is a 35-minute piece for violin, gamba and harpsichord in the form of a small opera.” The very simple plot device of a rising and falling scale provides a stage for the remarkable virtuosity and harmonic invention that marks out Marais’ music. The second set in tonight’s gig will include pieces by Rameau and Buxtehude.

Huw will be joined by Jonathan Manson (gamba) and Steven Devine (harpsichord).

The Night Shift is our series of informal chamber music gigs – literally music for smaller rooms, in the home or other places where people socialise. They’re a chance to hear the members of the OAE playing music that they’re passionate about and bringing in a wide range of musical influences. So come along, grab a drink with friends (or meet some new ones) and enjoy the music.

This event is part of the Wimbledon International Music Festival. It will be repeated as part of our regular series of The Night Shift at The Victoria in Dalston on Tuesday 1 December.
