Huw Daniel has been a violinist with OAE since 2014 and a Leader since 2020.
Huw was a pupil at Ysgol Gyfun Ystalyfera, South Wales, studied music at Robinson College, Cambridge, and baroque violin at the Royal Academy of Music with Simon Standage. He plays a violin by Jacob Stainer, 1665, and is also skilled with the viola d’amore.
In 2017 Huw stepped in at the last minute as leader and soloist for our UK tour of the Brandenburg concertos and later that year appeared on stage in Cavalli’s Hipermestra at Glyndebourne.
Outside of the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Huw is the leader of Orquestra Barroca Casa da Música, Porto, where he frequently plays concertos and occasionally directs the orchestra. He is also a member of the Dunedin Consort and the Irish Baroque Orchestra.
