We've complied an Isabelle Faust playlist ahead of our Faust Plays Schumann concert on 15 February.
Ahead of the concert, we’ve put together a playlist featuring her in recordings of music by Schumann, Weber and Bach.
Isabelle’s talent became obvious at a young age. At 15, she won the first Leopold Mozart International Violin Competition in 1987; in 1993 she won the prestigious Paganini Competition and her first album featuring Bartok’s solo sonata won a Gramophone Award in 1997.
Few violinists are as versatile as Isabelle. She is comfortable exploring everything from contemporary works to romantic concertos to Bach. Of her approach to music-making, she says that she “dives into every piece considering the musical historical context, historically appropriate instruments, and the greatest possible authenticity.”
In our playlist, you can preview Isabelle performing the Schumann Concerto in her 2015 recording with the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra. There’s more Schumann in the opening movement from Piano Trio No 3 and the beautiful Intermezzo from Violin Sonata No 3. Then, hear her exploring earlier repertoire, ending with another D minor concerto by Bach!
Happy listening.
