Our Haydn: From Esterháza to Hanover Square concert on 27 November (and touring in Europe before) features music from across Joseph Haydn’s career.
Joseph Haydn was born in a small village on the Austria/Hungary border in 1732 and worked for many years in the isolated palace of Esterháza. Despite this he was to become the most famous composer in Europe and the crowning moment of his career was probably his two residencies in London in the 1790s. He wrote at least 104 symphonies (we have them all!) and popularised it as a musical format. In this concert we will play Symphony No. 39 (composed around 1765 during his Sturm und Drang (“storm and stress”) era) and Symphony No. 102 (written for his second trip to London in 1794).
Our Community Open Rehearsals are open to everyone. They take place at Acland Burghley School in Tufnell Park, where the OAE is based – the nearest tube station is Tufnell Park on the Northern Line (usually less than 10 minutes from Euston or King’s Cross). We’d like anyone to feel able and comfortable to attend these events. We’re always happy to answer any questions you have – please email us if we can help.
It’s free to attend – but please register so we know how much tea to make!
