Iván Fischer Principal Artist

Iván Fischer is the founder and Music Director of the Budapest Festival Orchestra, as well as the Music Director of the Konzerthaus and Konzerthausorchester Berlin. His first performances with us came in 1988, with a programme including Mozart's Symphony No. 39.

Iván Fischer was a prolific collaborator with the Orchestra in its early years, specialising in programmes featuring Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven, but also occasionally dipping back in time to conduct Vivaldi and Bach.

Highlights of his relationship with us include a 2005 performance of Haydn’s Creation at the Lincoln Center in New York. In 2006, he conducted our tour of Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong and Malaysia, performing music by Austrian greats Haydn, Mozart and Schubert. When we returned to the UK, he then joined us for Mozart’s Così fan tutte at Glyndebourne in the same year.
